The television ads are in overdrive, the tame media commentators are barking and even the bankers themselves are putting on a parade, gracing as they did the stage at a "summit" last Thursday.

And all within a week since rumblings from Coalition members threatening a private members bill to bring on a royal commission into banking.

Those bloated profits from our financial institutions, they benefit all of us, we're told in soothing tones by reassuringly ordinary looking Aussies staring benignly from our television screens because, let's face it, we all own bank shares through our superannuation.

An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of States explains why eliminating or lowering tax burdens at the state level leads to economic growth and wealth creation. A passionate argument for tax reform, the book shows that even states with small populations can benefit enormously with the right policies. The authors’ detailed exposition evaluates the impact state and local government policies have on a state’s relative performance and economic growth overall, backed up with economic data and analysis.

An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of States shows everyone how to evaluate state-level fiscal and economic policies to become more competitive.

On 1 February 2018 the Inquiry commenced consultation on an ‘issues list’ for investigations into the Special Demonstration Squad . The issues list will inform the investigation of deployments of undercover officers, their conduct, and the impact of their activities on themselves and others. An overview note , which includes a question and answer sheet, has been produced to aid understanding.

The Inquiry’s purpose is to investigate and report on undercover police operations conducted by English and Welsh police forces in England and Wales since 1968. The Inquiry will examine the contribution undercover policing has made to tackling crime, how it was and is supervised and regulated, and its effect on individuals involved – both police officers and others who came into contact with them.

The work of the Inquiry ranges across the full scope of undercover policing work and will look at the work of the Special Demonstration Squad, the National Public Order Intelligence Unit and police forces across England and Wales. The Inquiry will also examine whether people may have been wrongly convicted in cases involving undercover police officers, and refer any such cases to a separate panel for consideration.
