Art of massage: a practical manual for the nurse, the student and the practitioner - The Art of Massage - Wikipedia

All animals, including the human species, tend to instinctively grab or rub a hurt in order to ease the pain. That simple urge to seek comfort in touch is the origin of massage. The word itself has been borrowed from French and can be traced back to the Arabic massa ("to touch or press"). In fact, the systematic manipulation of the soft tissues of the body has been practiced in many lands since ancient times, but unfortunately, modern "massage parlors" have sometimes given massage a less than respectable reputation.

Thanks to today's rebirth of interest in wholistic health and natural healing techniques, however, the art of massage has once again taken its place as a legitimate and very effective means of providing relaxation, body tone, and even "drugless therapy" for a number of minor ailments. When the simple techniques of massage are performed with knowledge, skill, and care, they can ease tension (which the body often "expresses" in terms of tight muscles or aching joints), improve circulation, and promote deep relaxation, which contributes to both good physical and good emotional health.

Massage can also serve as a powerful form of nonverbal communication. During a massage session, whether it's conducted at home or in a professional setting, a healing transfer of energy is said to take place between therapist and patient — an exchange that can ultimately "recharge" the body and promote a general feeling of well-being.

Our highly trained massage and beauty therapists provide a warm and friendly environment for your total relaxation offering treatments such as Aromatherapy Relaxation Massage, Deep Tissue or Remedial Massage, and Reflexology, each designed to alleviate stress and release muscle tension.

All techniques of massage therapy share a common historical heritage. They are more than a mere sum of their parts – not simply a “technique”, but a synthesis of education, training, experience, dedication, humility, and intuition which are expressed through a common instrument – the human hand.

At Art of Healing Wellness Centre , we offer a holistic approach to massage. The techniques of massage available to you are:

Massage Therapy is the manipulation of soft tissue, using palms, fingers, thumbs, knuckles, and elbows. A Massage Therapist will vary hand techniques throughout the massage, employing gentle, firm, deep strokes, direct pressure, kneading, rubbing, and tapping/drumming.

The Art of Massage , a new film by Adrian Carr, has won the prestigious Platinum Best of Show Award at the 2010 Aurora Ceremony. The film is intended to be the most meaningful film ever produced on the topic of massage for therapists and consumers alike.

Envisioned by Carr and team, the new DVD is exceptional in content and creative execution. Created in 2009 on location at Jasmine Hill Gardens and Outdoor Museum in Montgomery, Alabama, the film was awarded Best of Show within the health and wellness category. The Aurora award is consciously hard to win by industry creators, as it represents excellence in all areas of creative execution.

Created 12 years ago, the Aurora Awards recognizes the best of talent among independent film and video productions and includes commercials, documentaries, industrial and corporate awards. There are two levels of competition: platinum and gold, and only one in 10 films are ever selected for award. The Best of Show, or Platinum award, receives the industry’s most beautiful statue, which literally embodies the goal of reaching for higher excellence in creative growth.

These ladies are awesome!!! As a massage therapist myself, I can really appreciate how they use their entire bodies to heal mine. They do stretches, deep work, and use hot oils and towels that seriously sooth every part of your body. I cannot wait to go back again!! I left feeling brand new :-).
