The act of summoning one or more spirits with a predetermined purpose. The conjurer performs some type of ritual to call upon the spirit and often times this include using certain magic symbols drawn on the floor and/or altar. Supernatural has seen its fair share of memorable characters come and go, and that's not changing as one fan favorite is headed back to the occult series.

Despite being presumably killed by Lucifer ( Mark Pellegrino ) in the Season 12 finale, Rowena (Ruth Connell) will return to help out Sam ( Jared Padalecki ) and a lovestruck Dean ( Jensen Ackles ) this week. This latest episode finds the brothers in a tough spot when two witches steal a powerful book of spells after casting one on the elder Winchester, forcing the unlikely allies to embark on an interesting journey of magic, retribution and a little bit of fun.

While it's unclear how the red-headed sorceress will come back from the dead — or if the character manifests in a different way — we do know that her aid won't come for free. "Usually with Rowena, there must be something in it for her...They do seem to have something that she needs," Connell teased. Plus, it's another opportunity to mess with the Winchesters since they do have quite a bit in common.

Born in Scotland during the 17th century, Rowena was the daughter of a tanner and, according to a confession she made while bound to a witchcatcher, she was a "pale, scared little girl who smelled of filth and death".

Rowena is the mother of Crowley (born Fergus Roderick MacLeod, 1661). Rowena has related two stories regarding how she became pregnant with Fergus. She first said that she had been with many men during a Winter Solstice orgy. The second tale she related was that Fergus' father had been a rich and already-married man. Rowena gave birth to Fergus upon a straw mat in 1661. The married man abandoned her almost immediately after the child's birth.

This was a powerful moment for Rowena, who vowed never to be weak again. She became an abusive parent towards her son. For Fergus (now Crowley) there are no fond memories of their time together.
